The devastating road accident in Dehradun claimed six young lives, leaving families and authorities grappling with its aftermath. The police are consulting legal experts to determine appropriate action, as no formal complaints have been filed by the victims’ families so far.
Police Investigations Underway
Authorities in Dehradun are seeking guidance from legal professionals regarding the next steps after a horrific accident that resulted in six fatalities, including three women. Another individual sustained serious injuries and is currently in critical condition. Preliminary findings indicate that the truck driver involved in the incident may not have been at fault.
According to Inspector KC Bhatt of the Cantt Police Station, no case can be registered without a formal complaint from the families of the victims. He confirmed, as reported by The Times of India, that the families have yet to file any complaints that could justify legal proceedings.
What Led to the Fatal Accident?
The tragic event occurred early Tuesday morning at approximately 1:30 a.m. near ONGC Chowk in Dehradun. A speeding Innova car, carrying seven passengers, crashed into the rear left section of a container truck, leaving the vehicle mangled. Six of the passengers—three men and three women under the age of 25—died instantly.
The seventh passenger, 25-year-old Siddhesh Agrawal, survived but remains in critical condition at Synergy Hospital. Due to a severe head injury, Agrawal has been unable to provide a statement to the authorities, delaying the investigation further.
Preliminary Findings
Initial investigations suggest that the driver of the container truck was not responsible for the crash. The collision occurred in a blind spot on the truck’s rear left side, a vulnerability common in large vehicles. Since the car’s driver was among the deceased, current legal provisions prevent him from being held accountable.
Inspector Bhatt explained that in light of these circumstances, the police are consulting legal experts to explore alternative legal actions.
Sequence of Events Before the Accident
CCTV footage analyzed by the police revealed that the Innova was travelling at a normal speed while passing through several checkpoints, including Rajpur Road, Saharanpur Chowk, Balliwala, and Ballupur. However, as the vehicle approached ONGC Chowk, it suddenly accelerated, leading to the collision.
