In Rohtak, at 6:15 am on Friday, a major operation took place when more than 300 police personnel, led by HSVP estate officer Mukund Tanwar and Urban Estate Police Station Inspector Paramjeet, arrived to carry out a demolition order. The initial target was a structure in the garden belonging to BJP affiliate Maharaj Singh, an advocate. The demolition was part of a larger administrative action aimed at removing unauthorized setups in the area, including a tent used for political activities by former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) state president and social activist Naveen Jaihind.
Removal of Social Activist’s Tent and BJP Leader’s Garden Room
The administration directed the police and HSVP officials to dismantle a tent that had been installed by Naveen Jaihind along a roadside in Rohtak, where he was engaging in social and political work. Jaihind’s tent, positioned strategically, had become a site for local activists and temporary workers to voice their grievances against the government. Authorities also took down the room built in the garden of BJP advocate Maharaj Singh, marking the end of a prolonged land dispute involving Singh’s two-and-a-half-acre property.
jaihind’s Continued Activism Despite Legal and Political Pressure
Naveen Jaihind has been an outspoken critic of the government and has faced multiple legal cases, with 10 lawsuits ongoing in various courts statewide, including six in Rohtak alone. Previously, Jaihind operated out of a garden in Sector 6 but was forced to vacate after authorities intervened. Determined to continue his activism, Jaihind then moved his operations to a roadside tent, even after the BJP won its third consecutive term in power.
Support for Temporary Workers Sparks Government Tension
Jaihind has been vocal in advocating for temporary workers’ rights, specifically raising concerns over the working conditions of temporary employees at PGI (Postgraduate Institute). He recently threatened to protest if Chief Minister Naib Saini failed to fulfil a promise to employ 25,000 youths, though the government managed to make these appointments on the same day. Over the past week, temporary workers, frustrated with what they claim to be exploitation by contractors and officials, have been gathering at Jaihind’s tent to share their grievances and seek support.
Early Morning Demolition with Heavy Police Presence
The operation, which lasted about an hour, saw the arrival of over 300 police officers at the site early on Friday morning. Under the command of Officer Mukund Tanwar and Inspector Paramjeet, the authorities first demolished the room in BJP leader Maharaj Singh’s garden. They then proceeded to remove Jaihind’s roadside tent.

News of the demolition quickly spread, and several community members, including Muniram Atri, Manjeet Bhalaut, and Maharaj Singh, arrived at the scene. Jaihind, however, was not present at the time of the action. The police and officials concluded the operation and departed by 7:30 am, leaving behind the remains of the demolished structures.
