During a virtual event celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Shree Swaminarayan Mandir in Vadtal, Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on India’s youth to play a central role in realizing the vision of a “Viksit Bharat” or Developed India. Emphasizing the importance of young people in advancing the nation, he invited all citizens, especially the youth, to actively engage in building a prosperous and progressive India.
Collective Responsibility for National Advancement
Prime Minister Modi stressed that achieving a developed India requires a united effort. He encouraged everyone to inspire and support each other, particularly young people, to work towards this vision. “We must all incorporate the idea of a Developed India into our daily lives and contribute from wherever we are,” he said. Modi urged continuous dedication to this goal, highlighting the importance of each individual’s role in the nation-building process.
Self-Reliance as the Cornerstone of Development
The Prime Minister pointed out that a self-sufficient, or “Aatma Nirbhar,” India is essential for achieving development. He urged people to embrace “Vocal for Local,” supporting local products and businesses as a practical step toward self-reliance. Modi also highlighted the need to counter forces that attempt to divide the nation based on caste, gender, and other social differences. He warned against those who seek to create discord for personal or ideological reasons, stating, “Unity is crucial, as some individuals with self-interests attempt to create divisions. We must be vigilant and counter such divisive efforts.”
Youth Empowerment Through Education and Skills
Modi underscored the crucial role that educated and skilled youth play in shaping India’s future. Drawing on teachings from Lord Swaminarayan, he emphasized the need to empower young people through education and skill development. He noted that the skills of Indian youth are in demand worldwide, with many countries recognizing their talent and adaptability. This, Modi said, highlights not only their potential to solve India’s challenges but also to make significant contributions globally.
Tackling Drug Abuse to Secure India’s Future
Expressing concern over the impact of substance abuse on young Indians, PM Modi highlighted the importance of combating addiction. He commended the Swaminarayan community for their long-standing efforts in de-addiction campaigns, stressing that the future of India depends on protecting its youth from such harm. “The nation’s progress is tied to keeping young people safe from drug abuse,” Modi said, calling for continued efforts in this critical area.
Restoring and Preserving India’s Cultural Heritage
Modi also celebrated recent strides in restoring India’s cultural heritage. He cited major revitalization projects in Ayodhya, Kashi, and Kedarnath as examples of renewed pride in India’s heritage. The return of historic artefacts and statues to India, once taken away during colonial times, was praised as a restoration of the nation’s spiritual and cultural identity. “India is reclaiming its heritage with pride, as sacred idols and ancient images of our deities are being returned to their rightful places in temples,” he said.

The Shree Swaminarayan Mandir in Vadtal has been instrumental in shaping the social and spiritual lives of many followers. Known as the heart of the Swaminarayan community, this temple was founded under the guidance of Bhagwan Shree Swaminarayan and constructed by Sadguru Shree Brahmanand Swami and Sadguru Shree Aksharanand Swami.
Designed in the form of a lotus, the temple’s architecture represents unity across various faiths. With intricately carved pillars and detailed Ramayana scenes on its walls, the temple’s nine domes further enhance its magnificence.
